The Director of Distribution reports to the Chief Operating Officer overseeing all aspects of the distribution center operations. This position oversees all the handling and processing of Receiving, Material Handling, Inventory Control, Outbound, Returns, Traffic, Packaging operations and Facilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Execute the day-to-day operational plan to ensure that all departments are running as efficiently and effectively as possible.
Set long-term strategy with the COO.
Hold weekly meetings with direct management reports to review/establish accomplishments and goals.
Maintain accurate daily reporting to ensure the Distribution Center is on target to meet the goals with resolution for any areas falling short of goals.
Establish, evaluate, negotiate and manage contracts with vendors and suppliers.
Evaluate current procedures, bring forward recommendations and oversee implementation for increasing operational efficiency.
Define and deliver key metrics of Distribution Center for productive performance in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost.
Develop talent assets to establish and maintain a good succession management program.
Foster training and development opportunities for coworkers.
Work cross functionally with departments and vendors resolving any issues that do not meet Lane guidelines.
Lead communication meetings with managers, supervisor and coworkers on regular intervals discussing state of the company and progress towards goals.
Co-manage, along with company safety manager, the development and enforcement of company safety rules and programs.
Work closely with the Information Technology department concerning systems related issues.
Work cross functionally, identify and execute infrastructure upgrades, process automation and process/productivity improvements to allow the operation to scale at the pace of sales growth and benefit from economies of scale.
Keep current with emerging trends, benchmarking best practices and processes of outside companies.
Assist with warehouse tours.
Raise awareness of Lane Automotive’s efforts to minimize operational impact on the environment.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
7+ years running a large-scale distribution center.
Minimum 5 years of previous management experience.
Other Required Qualifications
Previous experience with quality control processes such as lean/six sigma/5s and a strong sense of attention to detail.
Project management skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with project stakeholders.
Exercise diplomacy and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive situations among diverse groups.
Ability to solve problems quickly and correctly to ensure a smooth operation.
Ability to use common computer applications and including WMS system.
Leads and directs the work of others.
The employee is frequently required to reach with arms and hands, stand, twist, bend, walk and sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
