Light Duty – Autos, Heavy Duty, Performance Vehicles
Manage R&D center activities (20 engineering staffs & technicians, including prototype lab, dyno labs, vehicle testing and small quantity friction material production) and financial resource ($3.2M) in accordance with customer needs and corporate requirements
Direct friction application Research and Development (R&D) programs, from new product proposal to commercialization. Drive accountability, consistency, quality, and process standardization across all phases of research and development related to friction materials
In accordance with company objectives, develop and monitor research plans and budgets for R&D projects, ensuring projects are completed on time and within cost objectives
Identify, evaluate and characterize raw materials, maintain data base for friction materials. Approve all Specifications (raw materials and friction formulas), ensure hazards associated with raw materials and chemicals are identified and considered.
Direct friction material development, prototype & testing, including dyno, vehicle and 3rd party testing. Select appropriate Friction Materials for each vehicle brake application (global)
Maintain awareness of Global testing standards and ensure friction products are tested and registered to NSF, AMECA, GB5763, R90 requirements
Prepare (M)SDS sheets for all Friction products.
Prepare Conflict Minerals Reporting for BPI customers
Maintain all friction formulation and process records and intellectual property necessary for compliance of corporate policy and customs Duty Compliance policy
Monitor the friction level of each formula produced (sold) by BPI for variability over time and between plants (trending)
Direct, manage, prioritize product development testing and help identify root cause of warranty concerns, including caliper, friction, rotor & hydraulics components.
Stay on top of industry trend and customer requirements, evaluate the needs of new equipment for product verification and release.
Ensure all Federal, State & local legally binding permits or ordinances that apply to R&D center as required
BS/MS chemistry, material engineering, mechanical engineering
10 years technical experience in friction formulation, processing & product development
5 years management, with demonstrated leadership to drive/motivate technical team to excel in innovation while maintain cost competitiveness. And ability to push projects over the finish line with planning and persistent execution
Project management capability with knowledge of friction product development, manufacturing and quality
Strong analytical skills, able to define problems, collect data, use fact based for decision making to drive continuous improvement
With open and collaborative attitude; comfortable working in an environment where ideas are shared and challenged
Work with internal departments, including procurement, supplier development, and product team to develop quality suppliers who can provide key raw materials locally sourced in India, China & Mexico
